Biography

Reinhard Goebel is a living legend of early music and a rousing conductor of modern orchestras and chamber orchestras. He discovered his love of the baroque violin at an early age and has never ceased to meticulously scrutinize bowing and articulation down to the last note – whether playing ancient or modern instruments.

"He is a musician of intellect: a figure of extraordinary encyclopaedic knowledge and a pioneer in opening up new and invigorating perspectives on the music of the seventeenth, eighteenth, and early nineteenth centuries. Reinhard Goebel is a brilliant mind—but neither his scholarly work nor his artistic interpretations are never dry or academic. He brings his knowledge and understanding to life. This is evident in his many recordings and in concert, where the trained violinist has established himself as a highly respected conductor."

Berliner Barocksolisten/Goebel - Cremona 3

Giuseppe Tartini takes centre stage in a programme that presents his violin sonatas in new form, reimagined as concerti grossi. The repertoire is complemented by Francesco Geminiani’s Concerto grosso in D minor, “La Follia”, a virtuosic arrangement of Corelli’s celebrated Sonata Op. 5 No. 12.
